There is, I believe, in every disposition a tendency to some particular evil–a natural defect, which not even the best education can overcome.
Jane Austen–Pride and Prejudice
Thank goodness I’m the only person who is not this way.

Thank goodness that I can sooo relate to Jane Austen in this way. 😇

Wait! I meant to say that I can’t relate to her in this way, just like you!

There are many definitions of evil. I am sure that by some of them, I am evil.

Seems to me like most of the definitions of evil revolve around not agreeing with or cooperating with the person who claims you’re evil.

Me neither, but evil backwards is live so perhaps I am when in reverse. The stories I’ve heard about Carolyn in reverse brings this discussion to a whole new level (which is level backwards).

So, when Carolyn lives it up, she’s evil?

With all that Pfffting, she reminds me of Linda Blair, in The Exorcist.

I’m curious: do you think the quote holds true outside of Pride and Prejudice?

I think it’s all in how you interpret the quote. What is evil? What is a natural defect? Everyone has some sort of peculiar habit that leaves others annoyed.
