Question: Grilled Cheese???

Life is full of mysteries that leave us wondering and scratching our heads. Lice can also do this. But if you have a question about life, or even about lice, this is your chance to ask it. Just shoot me an email, at TippyGnu [at] gmx.com. Or, if you don’t feel like shooting me, you can ask the question in a comment.

Once again, today’s question comes from celebrity author, Carolyn Shelton, over at Nuggets of Gold.

Carolyn is starting her own short-order restaurant. That’s because she’s short, and likes to order people around. But she hasn’t the slightest clue how to cook. Heck, she can’t even boil water without burning it. Or without a recipe.

I imagine you’d need to know a lot of recipes, if you want to open a restaurant. But Carolyn apparently didn’t think about that before she began this business venture. She needs help, and demands answers! Her question today is recipe related.

Just remember, there are no stupid questions. So here’s Carolyn’s: What is the proper way to make grilled cheese? A. Butter both sides and inside the bread, or B. Butter just the outside.

  1. Are you ducking? I see that I should have not given you my questions all once and I should have explained them, smartass! Brad makes them one way and I make them the other way, the right way. LOL!

  2. I lightly butter just the outside of the bread, but I use whole grain bread and dairy-free cheese, so what do I know? PS, if you butter the inside, won’t the cheese slide out of the sandwich?

  3. Wait edam minute, this is a gouda question. It so happens that I made myself a grilled cheese sammich this morning. I only buttered the outside of the bread. I mean, there is already cheese in the middle, does it really need butter? It might also need a little bacon and hot sauce, but that isn’t the question. So, butter the outside, cheese and bacon in the middle, whole wheat bread (for the nutrition), splash on some Cholula when done, take out on the porch and enjoy with black coffee and a nice bries.

  4. Take it for what it’s worth from a person who shouldn’t use kitchen shears…
    Grilled cheese?
If I have to go to the effort (and injury risk) of using the frying pan, eggs on my toast at a minimum.
As for the buttering… brioche in the toaster (and a fire extinguisher nearby).
