Life is full of mysteries that leave us wondering and scratching our heads. Lice can also do this. But if you have a question about life, or even about lice, this is your chance to ask it. Just shoot me an email, at TippyGnu [at] gmx.com. Or, if you don’t feel like shooting me, you can ask the question in a comment.
Once again, today’s question comes from celebrity author, Carolyn Shelton, over at Nuggets of Gold.
Carolyn is starting her own short-order restaurant. That’s because she’s short, and likes to order people around. But she hasn’t the slightest clue how to cook. Heck, she can’t even boil water without burning it. Or without a recipe.
I imagine you’d need to know a lot of recipes, if you want to open a restaurant. But Carolyn apparently didn’t think about that before she began this business venture. She needs help, and demands answers! Her question today is recipe related.
Just remember, there are no stupid questions. So here’s Carolyn’s: What is the proper way to make grilled cheese? A. Butter both sides and inside the bread, or B. Butter just the outside.

Are you ducking? I see that I should have not given you my questions all once and I should have explained them, smartass! Brad makes them one way and I make them the other way, the right way. LOL!

Yes, I’m ducking.
But I just have to add: Poor Brad. He has to make his own grilled cheese sandwiches, because you insist you know everything about how to make them, yet apparently know nothing. I hope everyone sets you straight on this today, so that Brad can get some rest.

I lightly butter just the outside of the bread, but I use whole grain bread and dairy-free cheese, so what do I know? PS, if you butter the inside, won’t the cheese slide out of the sandwich?

Just a tad at times. 🙂

I think the cheese would slide out of the sandwich if you use a white bread, such as Wonder Bread. But if you use a whole grain bread, the coarseness of the surface would likely grip the cheese and hold it stationary.

Wait edam minute, this is a gouda question. It so happens that I made myself a grilled cheese sammich this morning. I only buttered the outside of the bread. I mean, there is already cheese in the middle, does it really need butter? It might also need a little bacon and hot sauce, but that isn’t the question. So, butter the outside, cheese and bacon in the middle, whole wheat bread (for the nutrition), splash on some Cholula when done, take out on the porch and enjoy with black coffee and a nice bries.

Now you made me hungry for gouda and brie cheese! I didn’t say it needed butter BUT it makes it better, like the bacon. Bacon is a good idea. No hot sauce though, annnnnd why ruin the taste of the grilled cheese with black coffee?

My sophisticated taste buds know the taste of fine, sweet coffee. 🙂

There are other taste elements besides sweet.

That is true, smartie! There is salty, that’s why my caramel marchiatto is called sweet and salty. 🙂

That’s too many steps for me. I just get my wife to make one. But I don’t eat outside, as I’m afraid the nice bries might blow de brie onto my food.

Then you have to watch you briehavior around your wife so you can trust her to prepare your food.

I always watch my behavior around her. I’m no cheddar.

Take it for what it’s worth from a person who shouldn’t use kitchen shears…
Grilled cheese?
If I have to go to the effort (and injury risk) of using the frying pan, eggs on my toast at a minimum.
As for the buttering… brioche in the toaster (and a fire extinguisher nearby).

Brioche sounds like a great workaround to having to butter anything.

By the way, how close is the Oak Fire to you?

Sorry for the slow reply… Seems my recreational laptop must have reached its hundredth log-in and self-destructed. Took me awhile to find my P/W for WordPress, and this computer is too locked down to see any notifications.
The Oak fire is pretty far south of here, but not far enough not to be pumping the smoke into the basin. A little better today. But I guess this is the new summer normal.
As an aside, I drove over Echo Summit last week. The destruction from last year’s fire along route 50 is unbelievable. I may take a drive up tomorrow just to shoot some photos.

Hoo-boy, ain’t computer problems fun?
I’m glad the fire is far away from you. News reports indicate it’s spreading fast. What a shame to lose all that beautiful forest land.

Ugh on your laptop, glad you still found a way to get into WP.
So sad about all the fires 🔥 that have been happening. Wouldn’t mind seeing some of the photos, a possible blog post? 🙂
