Stolen Quote: Existence

The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion. ~ Albert Camus, French author and philosopher

This quote was once posted by Saudi Arabian dissident and blogger, Raif Badawi. For this and other alleged insults to Islam, he was arrested and sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes. Seems sometimes freedom is more easily attained when you avoid advertising it.

  1. So enjoy your inner freedom, but revel in it quietly lest ye be lashed and locked up. I get it. Sometimes when we find a peaceful uninhabited place to walk our dogs, my husband feels compelled to tell other dog walkers about it. Then he wonders why it isn’t peaceful and uninhabited anymore. Enjoy it, but on the down-low. Thanks for the tip, Tippy. πŸ™‚

      • We went for what was supposed to be a freeing, peaceful sort of walk in our local conservation area last night. It was all nice until a giant moose ran out in front of us and our dog started barking at it. After that I was not feeling so free. It didn’t do anything but I wasn’t sure about it. Then on another part of the walk, there it was again right beside us. Let’s just say I was hanging onto my Hubby for dear life. He wasn’t the least bit worried. Normally I’m not too freaked out about them, but this was just so close and with our dog, I didn’t know what it might do. I wasn’t sure if it felt threatened. Thankfully the second time we saw him, our dog didn’t notice.

        • Cool! I’ve never seen one in person, but I understand they’re very large. Must have been pretty scary. But if I had my camera, I’d be snapping photos, with my adrenaline pumping. I kind of felt the same way as you on a trip to the Grand Canyon, when a herd of elk sauntered over and began grazing by the front door of our cabin. But I got pictures.

          • I normally take pics, but this thing was fast and seemed spooked so I didn’t want to push my luck with the dog barking. Wow that would have been something to see the heard of elk. I think now we need to see the pics.
Btw you haven’t lived until you’ve come to Canada and seen a moose. We’re about to head out to the same park in a few mins. now I’m trying to mind over matter the worry of seeing more too close. lol

  2. I think people are threatened by those who feel free. Threatened or jealous? I’d rather be free quietly then find myself in jail and being beaten. There’s something to be said about quite freedom.

    What is freedom anyway?
