Stolen Quote: Forbearance

We should meet abuse by forbearance. Human nature is so constituted that if we take absolutely no notice of anger or abuse, the person indulging in it will soon weary of it and stop. ~ Mohandas Gandhi

Providing they don’t pull out a gun and start shooting everyone.

  1. Gandhi’s strategy has never worked for me. The only way I had a chance for the abuse to stop was to leave the relationship. When that didn’t work, I had to involved the police. When that didn’t work, he went to jail, several times. And when that didn’t work, the judge had to threaten him with hard time in a penitentiary. Finally, that worked.
He never got weary and at times I thought he would never stop. But hey, maybe it worked for Gandhi?

  2. This was my parents’ philosophy when I got bullied or teased at school… ignore them and they’ll go away. Just like problems. Or debts. Or Jehovahs Witnesses at the door. Sorry, Ghandi, they’re more tenacious than you think. 🙂

    • Gandhi had a secret auxiliary strategy to go with this. He tipped off the press to observe and report on the brutality. So next time someone is bullying you, ignore that person and call your local newspaper.
